Description of Kontogialos Beach
Kontogialos, also known as Pelekas Beach, is a long west-coast beach with fine sand and a gradually sloping seabed. Once associated with the island’s 1970s traveller culture, it has developed into an organised resort while retaining a beautiful natural setting beneath Pelekas village.
Sunbeds, umbrellas, restaurants, accommodation and watersports are available along the main beach. At the southern end, a small fishing harbour and the neighbouring cove known as Small Kontogialos offer a quieter alternative. Its western orientation also makes this an attractive place to stay for sunset.
Beach information
Long beach of fine, soft sand with a sandy, smoothly sloping seabed.
Umbrellas are available throughout the organised sections. Natural shade directly on the sand is limited.
Families, couples, swimmers and travellers looking for soft sand, organised facilities and west-coast sunsets.
Accessible by car or taxi via Pelekas. The final descent is winding; parking is available but can become busy in summer.
